This is a friendly place but if you're looking for Delish food...skip. The food was average and lukewarm at best. Nothing pops out on the menu. My teenage son didn't even like the fries... What does that say?!? I could only eat one myself and I agreed...blahhhh...reheated for the next order type fries. (I've worked in the restaurant industry). Again, friendly staff and probably a great bar environment...just not good food.

Well 4 stars for Rapid city is different than 4 for a bigger city. Checked out the gaslight during the rally after their rebuild after the fire. Well. I was happy we went. Food was very good. generous portions. Live entertainment. Friendly staff. Big menu. Local. Quick service. I will return. Clean restrooms. My Dad said it was the best filet he's had in a long time. I had the shrunken drunken chicken. Only available during the Sturgis rally. A beer butt roasted Cornish hen, seasoned generously with lemon pepper and a grilled potato dish with onions, bacon and jalapeños.

This literally is one of those "middle of the road' places! Rockerville is between the north and south lanes of highway 16, a divided highway! That requires you to do a left exit off the divided highway in either direction to get here. The building has a rustic look to it but is modern construction. Food is good and has enough variety stopping with your kids should not be a problem. My wife had a burger which she said was excellent and I had the spaghetti with meatballs.

Located close to the Bear Country exhibit in Rapid City, SD is The Gaslight Restaurant and Bar. Four Stars! (Could have been five!). My family members (3 adults and 4 kids) just had finished the Bear Country exhibit and were super hungry. We asked one of the locals of the best places to eat in the area. They told us to go to The Gaslight. This restaurant is in the middle of nowhere and had apparently burned down about two years ago and was just rebuilt. It's a really unique restaurant made of pine wood and made to look like a barn. My table mates and I were looking forward to a great meal, because much of the food that we found on our trip in SD was pretty bad. We found good food at the Gaslight. To start off this review - we had OUTSTANDING service from Ms. Kym! She was very knowledgable, patient with the little ones, and super quick on her feet. Best service we experienced in a week of being in SD! Thank you, Kym!! Appetizers: Fried Chicken Gizzards. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw chicken gizzards as an appetizer. I haven't had these in ages. It was a heavy battered chicken gizzards, deep fried to crispy perfection. This dish was well prepared! About half way through the dish, I started to peel off the batter (like corndog batter) because I was filling up fast. Plus I'm more used to just the flour dusted coating. Nonetheless the dish was great! Grade: B+ For my main meal, I ordered the Seafood Salad which was fresh greens topped with Krab and bay shrimp. It was served with a home-made Thousand Island Dressing which was delicious. Simple and fresh. Grade: B+ Couple of closing points: First, this restaurant makes all of their own dressings and sauces. You will be happy with the bleu cheese dressing (which tastes like it has a bit of horseradish?), the Thousand Island dressing, and the Pina Colada Dressing (Coconut and Pineapple). Secondly, we told the Ms Waitress Kym that we really enjoyed the food and service. I asked if the lady behind the counter was the owner. I was told that she was the bartender and that the owner was sitting in the back office. I told Ms. Kym that I wanted her to tell the owner that we thought that the food and service was outstanding. Kym dissappeared and returned about 5 minutes later with two business cards with a link to Trip Advisor on the back. The owner asked us to leave her restaurant a positive review on Trip Advisor, but didn't bother coming out in person to take the time to give her a compliment in person. We all thought that this protocol was weird. We al thought it was a bit standoffish of the owner. If it weren't for this, we would have gladly given the restaurant 5 stars! Food Grade: B+ Service Grade: A+ (Give Kym a raise, she is GOOD!) Thanks, Kym! Worth the Money Grade: B+ Oveall Impression Grade: B+

Visiting south dakota, a group of 5 of us decided to try local restaurants. The Gas light on Rockerville was one of the stop. We stopped in on Wednesday. Few customers so we got seated promptly. Hostess was very courteous. Our waiter was very professional and friendly. Got out orders and took order promptly. Got the Buffalo burger which was good. Other people in group got different food but every one was satisfied. Service we received from our waiter joshua was 5 all around. He recommended some places we could visit while here. The restaurant overall has a good feel to it. Dinning area is clean and quiet. Outdoor dinning is great for good weather day. Good selection of beers on draft. We stopped by July 8th and weather was in the 70's and cloudy. Overall we were happy with our experience. Highly recommend for tourist.

This place is a true hit. It sits in the middle of an old ghost town and has a very rustic touch. They were fairly busy and from the looks of it there was only one waitress working during lunch. Food took just a few minutes more than normal but for being what kind of place it was it was great. As my picture shows, this place is kid friendly. That is a must for us. We were very happy to see a sign out front stating that since it almost did have a "bar only" feel when first pulling up. There was really only one issue, the kids fettuccine tasted sort of strange. I would not suggest it. Have the kids stick with traditional items. Not really sure why but it just wasn't good. Oh and sweet potato fries were $1.50 extra. In my book they are always worth the extra money. They might not have been worth that much but they were seasoned very well and were cooked perfect. Would order again and we will certainly eat there again.

Recommended by the locals while we were visiting Mt Rushmore. The staff kept us laughing and very attentive to our needs. We both had steaks, Filet and Ribeye, both were tender and cooked to our liking. The dining area and bar were clean and well decorated. Looking forward to going back for Bluegrass Thursday!

We were pointed here by the woman working at the fudge shop in Keystone. I had the ribeye and my husband ordered the Hawg Wingz. My steak was totally flavorless - I don't think they use salt or pepper on their steaks. I wish I had ordered the same as my husband. The hog shanks he got were delicious!!! BUT, whatever you do, DO NOT order the mashed potatoes. Get something else, anything else. The mashed potatoes are powder mix with 6th grade cafeteria brown powder gravy over the top. Disgusting.

Something has happened to this restaurant since my last visit. The entire evening was a disaster, and it started with the unfriendly woman that seated us...(I think she was the owner!) We wanted to sit in the dining room near the local band. She completely ignored our request and seated us in the bar, stating that they were very busy tonight and expecting a bus. The server came to our table quickly and took our drink and appetizer order. Twenty five minutes later, no drinks and the server had disappeared. Another server offered to get us our drinks. She brought the water and told us they were out of the wine we ordered, so we made another choice. Appetizer arrived with the wrong sauce. We did get the right sauce, eventually-after we had finished the appetizer. We finally made our dinner order. The server was nice, but he had no idea what came with the meals. I had to tell him that I got a salad with the meal, or I would not have gotten one. I did get my salad-with the wrong dressing. I asked for the bread that the menu stated came with the meal, and was told that they were out of bread. Really?? My friends ordered a steak and prime rib. I ordered chicken. My friends enjoyed their meals. My chicken was raw. I sent it back to the kitchen, and was returned to me with more sauce, but still raw. Ugh...Again the server was nice, but didn't offer to do anything about it. I have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, and will probably give it one more chance before taking it off my list of places to go.

Between Rapid City and Crazy Horse Monument is this little roadside restaurant. We all got burgers, which were good. Service was attentive, decor was cowboy saloon with a lot of local color, and they played classic country music (think Ronnie Milsap or Mickey Gilley) over the speakers. Good experience that rounded out the whole day in the Black Hills.

Stopped by the Gaslight on the way back to Rapid City from Rushmore/Custer area. Found this in one of those off the beaten path books. I had the whiskey steak. The steak was tender and good the whiskey give it a sweat flavor. I would opt out of that but the main thing is that it was cooked well and was easy to cut with a knife. A good piece of meat. My son had a piece of steak too, ribeye. That was good too. The place was not busy (I guess off the beaten path has a purpose). All in all I would go there again.
